Who We Are
We came to the United States from highly reputed Institutions in India more than 3 decades ago to seek postdoctoral fellowships in the United States. It was hard being alone, so far from our parents and family members in India, but we were motivated and were ultimately able to excel in the field of Cancer Research through collaboration and learn about work-life balance through our school-going kids. We still observe similar situations and scenarios among current incoming postdoctoral fellows and we want to share our stories and experiences in order to enthusiastically offer guidance to the young minds who wish to shine in the United States by overcoming some of the cultural barriers.
What We Do
We offer advice on personal preparations for moving to the United States including but not limited to awareness of the cultural changes in living, communication (verbal and via emails), applying for a driver’s license, shopping tips, socializing, handling confidential information, right to privacy, raising a family, health concerns, insurance plans, travel within and outside of United States.
We also offer guidance on a range of resources such as postdoctoral career development, formulating goals, mentoring and teaching, improving skill sets, handling multiple projects in the lab, participating in lab meetings, speaking freely to the supervisor, writing manuscripts, participation in conferences and meetings, preparing for presentations, journal clubs, collaborations, writing grants, promotions, participating in clinical research, building a niche, etc.
